toque-me

2014

Eduardo Salvino & OSNÁUTICOS* - SESC Belenzinho. São Paulo/SP.
Installation: public telephone; Deck wood; laptop; Software; PABX and Fax modem.
Technical Direction: Leonardo Ceolin. Programming: Roger Sodré.
Dimension: variable. Photo: André Fraga.

The work consists of an interactive relationship with the public that is given as follows:
From time to time the telephone rings, and the caller who is next to the telephone can
answer the call. By attending it, the passer-by will begin an interactive relationship with
this "poetic machine". The same happens to the extent that the user of the device responds to
the electronic recordings heard on the other side of the line. When listening to the
recordings the interactor makes associations of keys corresponding to the
month and year of his birth, which allows him to listen to associations of
poems of the "OSNÁUTICOS". This installation,  whose pretension
is to be a kind of "oracle and seer", makes implausible readings of
the spectator giving the same an edited and unusual profile...
In  a  tone  of "fantastic fable"  and  from "poetic seams",
"toque-me"  is  meant  to  be  a  sound remix,
superimposing information that touches
space,  time,   and  place.

"toque-me"
Literally means touch me; "tocar" is to touch. But it is a wordplay,
since the verb to ring is also "tocar"in Portuguese (as in a ringing phone).
